“Happiness, not in another place but this place, not for another hour but this hour”

— Walt Whitman

Hi!

My name is Jesse and I am so glad you’re here checking out my website. Lets face it, finding a counselor or a coach is a strange process. Sometimes it feels like pulling a name out of a hat. What I have found to be quite helpful in this process is getting to know the person on a more personal level so that is exactly what this page is all about. I hope it makes you feel a bit more connected to another human and not just another website and name.

I am 33, my pronouns are he/him, I’ve been married to the love of my life for 9 amazing years, we have a 4 year old, two dogs, 9 chickens, and an amazing urban farm that we grow all sorts of amazing food. My wife is an artist, podcast producer, and creative coach. As you might imagine, we sometimes have a hard time turning “work” off but what I love about our dynamic is we are constantly in the space and conversation of growth, development, challenges, and of course feelings & emotions.

If you ask me what I do, the first thing I’d probably say is a proud father, husband, and urban farmer. Of course, I see counselor & coach as part of my identity too but I don’t really like to silo off any one part of who I am vs. what I do for a living.

Here you can see our daughter, our chocolate lab Goose (8 y/o), and our German wirehaired pointer Jasper (3 y/o) on a camping trip near Twin Lakes, CO in the summer of 2022.

We love car camping and road trips though we don’t get out as much as we’d love but hope to change that in the near future. We also enjoy hiking, backpacking, snowboarding, wakeboarding, and I like to golf.

We also love to run and look forward to the day our daughter can start to run distance with us. We’ve talked about training for a half marathon but no promises, stay tuned.

A bit about my practice…

Who is counseling for?

It all begins with a desire for life to be different. Whether you are facing communication issues in a relationship, loss of trust, wanting to build a deeper emotional connection, or facing a difficult life transition - counseling can help. Perhaps you are dealing with a recent job loss or a relationship ending, perhaps you are feeling locked into your job but have virtually no drive or passion, or perhaps you want to shift your mindset - I believe I can help you. Counseling isn’t just for individuals or couples facing challenges either, it can be a great place for reflection and balancing.

Who is coaching for?

Although there is overlap between the counseling space and the coaching space, they do look different. Coaching includes more advice giving and specific strategies to help you reach your goals. Coaching could be for someone specifically looking to advance or change their career, grow their business, or personal life development. In the coaching space I also disclose more about my own personal successes and challenges. Of course, the coaching space is still focused on you and reaching your goals, and is confidential.

What is your training & credentials?

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Colorado - #LPC.0018612. In order to obtain this licensed I first needed to complete a clinical masters degree. In 2019 I completed my masters degree in clinical mental health counseling from Denver Seminary which is a CACREP accredited counseling program. During my masters program I completed a clinical research project with adolescents focused on understanding the influence of personality traits. Additionally, I’ve worked at three of the leading Community Mental Health Centers in the Denver-Metro area over the last 8 years. After completing my masters I then completed over 2000 hours of clinical work and over 100 hours of clinical supervision from a licensed psychologist, and from two different licensed professional counselors.

How do you define LGBTQIA+ Allied?

As a heterosexual and cisgender person, I believe it is my privilege and responsibility to not only support and accept, but to help advance equal civil rights, gender equality, and LGBT social movements. I do this through challenging homophobia, biphobia, and transphobia. In my counseling practice, I work with adults and adolescents, couples and individuals from every part of the LGBTQIA+ community and I would be honored to work with you.

Do you use spirituality or faith?

I do not identify with any one religion but I do have a background in Christianity. I obtained my bachelors degree in Pastoral Ministry at a faith-based school in Chicago and my masters degree in Clinical Counseling from Denver Seminary. I’ve come to respect and value the things we can learn about the human experience through many different faiths and spiritualities including Buddhism, energy work such as Reiki, and the metaphysical world. Although I have a personal background in spirituality and faith know that I will never push a particular belief system on you. Only if you, the client, requests spirituality or faith discussion will this be used in sessions. I also work with clients of all faith and spiritual backgrounds, including agnostic and atheist.

What is your approach, what techniques do you use?

I primarily specialize in mindfulness and developing a process where you can attune to your own inner world of emotions, which I refer to as parts. I utilize a lot of Internal Family Systems (IFS) and I also offer Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP). I also draw from Emotional Focused Therapy (EFT) and Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) with both individuals and couples. Typically I work with individuals for about a year and couples for about six months but this is just a general guideline and I have many clients who I've seen much longer and shorter. I also utilize Trauma-Informed Care and Person-Centered approaches. My theoretical orientation is modeled on a humanistic perspective blended between Buddhism, Gottman, and Gestalt.

Do you accept insurance?

No, I am self-pay only. However, many insurances provide some level of Out of Network coverage (OON) and I am happy to provide a superbill which will allow you to submit your payment for reimbursement through your insurance. Of course, I cannot guarantee OON coverage and it is your responsibility to verify your coverage. Additionally, counseling services are HSA and FSA eligible and most clients do not even need to submit receipts for verification. You can find my rates on my Services & Rates page.

Do you have a sliding fee scale?

Yes! I offer a sliding fee scale of up to 50% off. The sliding fee scale is based on the federal poverty line, your household income, and number of dependents. Please let me know if you would like to be considered for the sliding fee scale and we can discuss your options.

How long are sessions and treatment?

Sessions are booked for an hour and last for 45 to 50 minutes. We recommend at least meeting every other week during the first couple months to get treatment established and to build momentum. The length varies but typically Solutions Focused Brief Therapy can help you reach your goals within 8 to 12 sessions.

Is it confidential?

Absolutely. Confidentially is vital for the therapeutic process to work. Your information is kept secure, private, and confidential meeting all state and federal regulations for mental health care. We will only release your information to those you request in writing.

Let us help you find the change you’re longing for
